Who we are
ShelfNotes is a personal project operated by Bastien Chamagne. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your personal data in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Data we collect
- Account data: your email address, used to log in via magic link.
- Content data: books, notes, and quotes you add to the application.
- Contact messages: messages you send through the contact form, including subject and content.
How we use your data
- To authenticate you and manage your account.
- To store and display the content you create.
- To respond to your messages.
We do not sell your data to third parties. We do not use it for advertising.
Data retention
Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us.

Under GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate data.
- Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten").
- Object to or restrict processing of your data.

Third-party services
ShelfNotes uses OpenAI Whisper to transcribe audio recordings into text. When you use the recording feature, your audio is sent to OpenAI's API for transcription. Please refer to OpenAI's Privacy Policy for details on how they handle audio data. This may change in the future depending on user feedback.
Hosting
ShelfNotes is hosted in the European Union. Data is stored on servers subject to EU data protection law.
